The Benefits of Installing a Megaflo Cylinder

Are you looking at installing a Megaflo cylinder in your home? Or have you been advised by a local gas engineer that you should install one?

And are you unsure of the benefits?

We've uncovered all in this short blog post...

What is a Megaflo Cylinder?

A Megaflo cylinder is a stainless steel system that stores hot water as part of the central heating system.

Important: A Megaflo cylinder is not actually a boiler, but a hot water cylinder, so it doesn't have any role in pumping water throughout your central heating system; rather it just warms it up in order for it to be pumped around.

Megaflo cylinders can be either “indirect” or “direct”.

The difference between direct and indirect Megaflo tanks is how they the water. If it's a direct system, the water is heated using a built-in element, but if it's heated indirectly, the water will be heated by a separate regular boiler or system boiler.

What are the benefits of installing a Megaflo cylinder?

Now that you understand what a Megaflo cylinder is and have a rough idea of how it works, let's talk about the benefits of installing one...

Benefits of replacing your cold water tank with an unvented Megaflo cylinder...

  • If you have a regular boiler and you live in a household with limited space, you won't need a separate cold water tank in addition to the cylinder, you can just have the cylinder on it's own, helping you free up some space.
  • Water that's sat still in a loft has more chance of being contaminated, compared to water that's locked away in a cylinder.
  • You can be completely flexible with regards to where you install your Megaflo unvented cylinder...

In addition to the benefits of a lack of cold water tank:

  • Increased water pressure: If you reduced water pressure, you can take advantage of the fact that the cylinder uses mains pressure, meaning you can greatly improve the performance of showers, baths and more.
  • Megaflo cylinders are easy to install and their parts are widely available, so if you ever need to replace it or repair it, you're covered
  • Megaflo cylinders are compatible with Solar PV, making them a great option for homeowners looking to reduce their energy bills.
